Until last night no one had seen more than an approximation of Alfred Hitchcock's first film since it made his name 87 years ago. Most famous of all was Vauxhall Gardens in London - Vauxhall came to be a general term for pleasure gardens and Sydney Gardens was originally named Sydney Gardens Vauxhall.
We can date the park in its modern form to the 19th century. But the idea of a greenish-space for various kind of recreation is considerably older e. Very few of these have survived in anything approximating their original form — although sometimes portions survive as small city parks, and associated public houses linger, if only in name.
However it is a quaint little park and has some solid basketball courts and cafes around the edge. Close to the rail and bus interchange this is a very pleasant piece of free green open space. There is an enclosed space for sport and places for children to play.
